Three Scottsdale Prep Seniors Sign to Play Collegiate Sports

Scottsdale Prep May 15, 2025 -

There was a lot of excitement in the Scottsdale Prep gym during a recent school assembly, as students and faculty gathered to celebrate a major milestone for three seniors. Troy Barlow, Anya Mathur, and William Daily signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

The moment was filled with school spirit and roaring applause, as Teray Allen-Lisbon from the athletic department kicked things off. “We would like to start off by congratulating these three student-athletes for all of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their athletics and academic journeys.”

First up was Troy Barlow, who’s heading to Arizona Christian University as quarterback for the ACU football team. Barlow shared how much Scottsdale Prep has meant to him. “Scottsdale Prep has prepared me in many ways. Not only athletically but academically,” he said. “The teachers have been very supportive of me. From tutoring to study hall, I’ve really gotten to expand my knowledge in a lot of different aspects, and they’ve really helped me do that.”

He also gave credit to his coaches. “They’ve really helped me grow not only as a person but also on the field… They’ve really been a big help.”

Anya Mathur is taking her golf game to the Ivy League, where she’ll be playing Division 1 golf at Yale with women’s golf team. “I have already met a couple of the girls on the team, and they are so welcoming. They’re very nice,” she said. Mathur will be experiencing a big change in scenery when she moves to Connecticut. “It’s going to be cold, humid, and snowy. Which is nice, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen snowfall in my life.”

And when it comes to balancing academics and athletics, Mathur feels more than ready. “I feel that I’m prepared for the workload for sure… If I didn’t go here, I don’t think that would be something that I would have gotten to.”

William Daily is headed to Denison University in Ohio to swim. “I swim butterfly mainly. 200 fly is my best event. I also swim 100 back, 200 back, and then 200 free,” he explained. Daily said he is most excited about the friendships that await. “All the guys [there], I felt like I really got along with them, and I’m really excited to get to know them and hang out with them. And also train hard with them.”

Daily has been at Scottsdale Prep since fifth grade and spoke about how much the school has shaped him. “It’s definitely been challenging…  but developed me into a really good student and prepared me well for what I’m about to do. And I think I’ve made some of my best friends here,” he shared. “The thing that I’m the most grateful for is definitely the teachers. How I’ve been able to foster really good relationships with them through the small school environment. And just feel like I wouldn’t necessarily get that from another school.”
