Welcome to Great Hearts Arizona, a distinguished network of 25 tuition-free, public charter schools spread across the Valley, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Peoria, Glendale, Buckeye, Goodyear, Anthem, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, and Maryvale. For more than two decades, Great Hearts has been at the forefront of classical education, offering a rigorous college preparatory program that extends from kindergarten through high school. Our mission is to cultivate the hearts and minds of students in the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, as encapsulated in our Latin motto: Verum, Pulchrum, Bonum. 

At Great Hearts Arizona, we are committed to an honors-level liberal arts curriculum that stands in the tradition of the finest independent private schools. Our approach to education is grounded in the belief that the world is ordered and knowable, and that through reason, hard work, and a coherent program of study, the human intellect can attain a true understanding of reality. 

We hold steadfast in the belief that truth exists as an objective reality. In our academies, truth is relentlessly sought through disciplined study and good-willed conversation, transcending subjective notions of “my truth” and “your truth.” We engage our students in shared inquiry and honest discussion, embracing Socrates’ assertion that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” Our curriculum, while responsive to new scientific developments and historical discoveries, emphasizes the enduring, the changeless, and the permanent aspects of human knowledge and experience. 

Central to our educational philosophy is the study of the literary and philosophical Classics of the West. These works, with their timeless exploration of the universal human condition and the laws of nature, form the core of our curriculum. They are complemented by studies in mathematics, science, and the fine arts, cultivating cognitive, emotional, and moral education—thinking deeply, loving noble things, and living well together. 

At Great Hearts Arizona, we believe that beauty transcends subjective perception. The classic forms and works of Western music, drama, and visual art play a pivotal role in forming aesthetic judgment. Our students are not only exposed to these artistic treasures but are also encouraged to engage with them critically and appreciatively. 

Our academies cater to various learning modes, with a special emphasis on the written and spoken word as privileged forms of human expression and knowledge. While we recognize the utility of a liberal arts education in preparing students for college, our primary aim is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind. We endeavor to guide our students toward intellectual and moral goodness, in line with Plato’s belief that the highest goal of education is to become good in both thought and action.
