Cicero Prep’s Barbershop Quartet Takes Third in Regional Competition
Cicero Prep June 2, 2025 -
A quartet of seniors from Cicero Prep has ended their high school careers on a high note. The Hoi Polloi Barbershop Quartet, composed of Adam Myers, Ty Erickson, Alessandro De Los Santos, and Conner Collings, recently earned third place in the 2025 Far Western District High School Barbershop Quartet contest. Operated by the Barbershop Harmony Society, the competition was open to high school quartets from California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.
We featured another barbershop group from Veritas Prep last year. A barbershop quartet is a vocal ensemble made up of four singers, typically tenor, lead, baritone, and bass, who perform a cappella in close harmony. This style of music is known for its resonant chords and synchronized, expressive delivery. According to the Barbershop Harmony Society, “Barbershop is a style of arranging, but is not an era, style of music, or genre.”
The group, whose name Hoi Polloi is the Greek phrase for “the people,” has been singing together since their sophomore year. They began performing at school choir concerts two years ago and have steadily grown in skill and harmony through their years of collaboration.
Earlier this year, after attending a barbershop youth chorus event, the quartet was encouraged represent Cicero Prep at the competitive level. They entered the divisional quartet contest, where they placed 11th out of 17 adult quartets and third in the high school quartets division.
In recognition of their achievement, the Barbershop Harmony Society presented each member with a plaque and awarded a $200 donation to Cicero Prep’s music department. The check and plaques were presented at the school’s End-of-Year Awards Ceremony.
The four members recently graduated as part of the Cicero Prep Class of 2025, with quartet member Adam Myers serving as class Valedictorian. Though they will soon head off to different colleges, the group members have expressed their intention to continue singing and hope to stay involved in barbershop quartet work in the years ahead.
